José M. Marín is Professor of Excellence at Carlos III University. He graduated Valedictorian, Summa Cum Laude (Premio Extraordinario) from the University of Murcia (Spain) with a degree in Economics, and received his PhD in the same subject from the University of Pennsylvania. He previously held academic positions at Universidad Pompeu Fabra (Finance Professor), Wharton School (Fulbright Senior Visiting Scholar), New York University (MEC Visiting Scholar), and IMDEA Social Sciences (research professor). He has served as President of the Spanish Finance Association (AEFIN) and as Director of the Centre for Research in Financial Economics (CREF). A former member of the Group of Economic Advisers (GEA) of the European Security Markets Authority (ESMA) and of the Expert Committee for the "Reform for the Sutainability of the Spanish Pension System", Dr. Marín currently serves as a member of the Consulting Board of the Spanish Independent Fiscal Authority (AIREF) and the Director of the PhD Program in Finance and Business at Carlos III University.

Dr. Marín’s research output has reached top international journals, such as the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of Monetary Economics, the Journal of Portfolio Management, etc. He has also contributed chapters in collective books and monographs, and is co-author of Economía Financiera, a textbook that is widely used as a reference in undergraduate and graduate programs worldwide. His main fields of concentration are: asset valuation, risk and asset management, conflict of interests in security markets and banking, and the analysis of insider trading and market crashes. Dr Marín’s findings have been influential in the regulation of pensions (Pension Protection Act 2006) and in accounting standards (SFAS 158), and have received ample coverage in the media.

Professor Marin has also worked as an economic consultant and an expert witness in legal procedings for both private and public institutions such as: Endesa, Banco Santander, Abengoa, BBVA, Vodafone, Unión Fenosa Gas, the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Central Bank (ECB), etc.
