Lluís Santamaría is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Department of Business Administration at CarlosIII University. He holds a Ph. D. in Business Administration and a Licentiate degree in business and economics from Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain).

He teaches financial and management accounting. Lluís' research interests center on two fields: Management of Innovation and Accounting Information Systems. His research examines aspects of corporate governance, management of innovation, technological cooperation and comparative institutional analysis. He also studies aspects as the management of intangibles and information systems of accounting. Recent papers deal with the impact of technological agreements, the role of non-R&D activities, adaptation of HRM practices in R&D departments, and, finally, the implementation of ERP systems.

Some of his latest papers are: “Service innovation in manufacturing firms: evidence from Spain” (with María Jesús Nieto and Ian Miles) published in Technovation; “Public selection and financing of R&D cooperative projects: Credit versus subsidy choice” (with Andrés Barge-Gil and Aurelia Modrego) published in Research Policy; “Hidden innovators: The role of non-R&D activities” (with María Jesús Nieto and Andrés Barge-Gil) published in Technology Analysis & Strategic Management; “Technological collaboration: bridging the innovation gap between small and large firms” (with María Jesús Nieto) published in Journal of Small Business Management; “Beyond formal R&D: Taking advantage of other sources of innovation in Low and Medium Technology Industries” (with María Jesús Nieto and Andrés Barge-Gil), published in Research Policy; and “R&D managers’ adaptation of firms’ HRM practices” (with Pedro Ortín), published in R&D Management.

In addition to his teaching and research, Lluís develops several administration tasks. Currently, he is the Vice Dean of Academic Organization of the School of Law and Social Sciences and the Deputy Director of the Executive Master in Financial Analysis. He also coordinates two academic subjects: Financial Accounting and Budgeting. Finally, he has served as ad hoc reviewer of several journals as Research Policy, Technovation, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Small Business Management, Industrial and Corporate Change, Investigaciones Económicas, Revista de Economía Aplicada, European Management Journal, Industry and Innovation; and Cuadernos de Economía y Dirección de Empresas.
