María Montes is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Business Economics at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. She holds a doctorate in Economics, specializing in Operations Management. She has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and at Stanford Graduate School of Business, and has held several positions at the University of California, Los Angeles. Before joining Carlos III, she was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Economics and Business at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
Her research interests focus on Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Environmental Management. Her work has been published in international journals in both the area of Management (Strategic Management Journal and Business Ethics Quarterly, among others), and in the area of Operations (Management Science and Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, among others).
María teaches courses in Operations Management and Logistics in the Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and the double degree in Law-Business Administration, as well as in different Masters programs. At the business level, she actively collaborates with the Spanish Logistics Center (CEL), a non-profit organization, in carrying out projects related to the supply chain.
She has received numerous awards, as well as nominations for best papers at conferences, the most recent being the work with Diego-Castillo and Wu in “ISM Best Paper in Supply Chain Management” at the Academy of Management Conference 2022 and the work with De Stefano in “Chris Voss Best Paper Award” at EurOMA 2022. Previously, she received the “Outstanding Paper in 2016 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence” award in the work with Tachizawa and Alvarez-Gil.
